Launch Season – Brooks Ghost Max SE

    by Lionel Brahim Brodie III

When the original Ghost Max released, I was HYPED on 80s colloquialisms. When I hear the word 'Max' my brain immediately goes to 'The Max', the everyday hangout for Zach, Kelly, and the rest of the squad from Bayside High (Saved By The Bell). I peppered that product review with descriptors such as EXPOSÉ, RAD, BODACIOUS, and FRESH. I just couldn't help it.....

It was the newest entry from Brooks into the Max Cushion running shoe category (at the time) and highlights included the shoe's comfortable midsole, assistive rocker for a seamless heel–to–toe transition ratio, and the roominess of the toe box. With some brands I'm a straight size 11.5 regardless of the model, but with Brooks I feel the need to try every model on to ensure the proper fit. I can't state this enough haha, but my feet are wide and flat. I’ve run in these with both thin socks and thick socks…..plenty of space and coziness each time I put the Ghost Max 'OG' on.

The Ghost Max 2 hit the market this year, and simply elevated the Ghost Max franchise. And just when I'm preparing myself for those post TRE (The Running Event) Ghost Max 3 teasers.....the Brooks Ghost Max SE (Special Edition) releases. The biggest difference between the OG and SE = suede!

Let's quickly talk Lifestyle. We have our footwear models that are primarily lifestyle (or fashion), meant to be worn casually with your coffee shop and nightclub fits. We have our footwear models that are primarily performance (or function), meant to be worn athletically with your running and training fits. Sometimes it's tough for that model to crossover. I mean I'M wearing Super Shoes with a pair of jeans, button–down Ralph Lauren Shirt, Barbour Waxed Coat, Phillies Cap, and a Burberry Scarf.....but that's just me. So how do we take a primarily performance shoe and make it suitable for every day, all day fashion? Add suede, that soft and pliable type of leather that looks good with everything!

The Ghost Max SE is still designed to provide maximum comfort and cushioning for your feet. It's still light, and breathable, and perfect for any running activity. Remixed with a soft suede and mesh upper that offers everyday wearability for both running/racing and resting/relaxing days.

Recommended usage, like the OG, is for being on your feet all day, walking, short runs, and long “easy” runs. And like the OG, I'd wear the Ghost Max SE for races as well! IT'S ALL GOOD (had to sneak one last 80s colloquialism in)! WORD!
