I have a become a coffee snob. I'm not knocking where anyone gets their daily fix from – one of my favorite places to consume caffeine is a little outfit called Summit Restaurant in Lewisberry, PA 17339. I'm not sure what they brew (Folgers or Maxwell House if I had to guess), but it's delicious. Aside from that, and the several–times–a–week Cup of Joe that I consume in Rittenhouse purely out of convenience......I typically only go to local coffeehouses that are brewing something special and something that I can only get there, or a few other places (counting on one hand) on Earth. I love it because every cup, mug, etcetera has variety in its taste. An adventure every time…..
To be fair, that's single–origin Ethiopian brew that I'm consuming a few times a week from The Emerald City's most popular coffee chain. And it hits the same every time. From every location. Consistency. It's what we fancy about our favorite franchises. McDonald's, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts.....WAWA.....every time we go we know what to expect and it always delivers. I like to pretend that the Double Quarter Pounder With Cheese (no ketchup, no mustard) tastes better in Rosemont, PA (our “home” Mickey D's) than it does anywhere else on the planet, but no. Exactly the same, and delightful every single time.
This is what I love about the new Saucony Guide 18. It's still great for both long runs and easy miles with your run crew. It's excellent for all day wear. The upper is lightweight, with plenty of room for my wider–than–most feet while stationary, and still cozy with natural toe spread as I'm running. The cushioning is soft, comfortable, and responsive – the latter being a nice amenity for me and I'm now integrating both highly cushioned and highly responsive models into my running shoe program.
The Saucony Guide 18's exclusive Center Path technology keeps the foot centered and supported. I'm typing this in a cavalier manner, but it is NOT something I take for granted. I was recently experimenting with a non–stability sneaker and, while enjoying the bounce of that shoe, I felt all over the place (even more so than my mind as I'm hopped up on thee aforementioned caffeine whilst typing). It is extremely comforting and satisfying knowing that the Guide held true to expectation. In fact, it's a model that I plan on putting some serious mileage on this season. If I were grading stability trainers by preference, the Saucony Guide 18 is in the running, pun intended, for valedictorian. Proof that sometimes, if it isn't broken, there is no need to fix it (shoutout to Bert Lance).
