We’re less than 1 week away from the races of Philadelphia Marathon Weekend. Let's put a lid on our regularly scheduled Race Checklist for a minute and cover one of the more interchangeable, but important, pieces of our running wardrobe (in the industry, we call this foreshadowing).
This summer, in an attempt to be punny, I started giving witty (being used subjectively here) names to a lot of our Product Collections. For the one covering headwear (see what I did there?), I used "Hats What We're Talking About" (yes, I know.....). I wanted to go with "Hats What We Call Running" as a play on the Now That's What I Call Music! (NOW) compilation series that hit the United States in like my sophomore or junior year of college, but I don't know who reading this remembers the late 90s haha. NOW albums, cassettes, and compact discs covered almost every music genre and released at least once a year. Do the math! And if it appears to be an overwhelming feat – THAT is about how many hat options there are out here. On Earth. For Runners.
Luckily for you I wear hats daily (even after I shave as Jamie will tell you). Not only do they make for great accessories, adding flavor to your fitness and casual outfits, but serve a functional purpose of protecting us from the sun, wind, rain, snow, etcetera.....whilst providing relief from sweat as the mileage begins to add up. Do you want to be thinking about all of the moisture in your eyes on Race Day? Doubtful. Here are a few of my favorites:
Junk Bands – a lightweight, stylish way to keep sweat out of your eyes.....or to keep hair back/managed. I'm bald and don't have to worry about the latter haha, but sweat is my nemesis. Philadelphia Runner has added a few new designs recently. It's hockey season.....LOVE the Gritty Headband! And orange is my favorite color, so this is a WIN–WIN.
Cotopaxi Teca Fleece Beanie – everything about Cotopaxi is cool. And it’s cold outside.....in the mornings and evenings. I don't mind a winter beanie on Race Day. Sometimes I'm using the race as a workout, like this Saturday's 8K. In that case I want to sweat more to prove to myself that I'm working hard.....but this fleece is light and soft to prevent overheating.
Philadelphia Runner x On Lightweight Cap – On's legendary featherlight cap with a PR twist! It's one of the most lightweight caps on the market, giving you fast–drying, hard–working, cooling protection.....sometimes you forget you're wearing a hat it's so light and cool!
Philadelphia Runner Trail Cap – you're going to start to see a bias forming haha, but..... Here's an extra PR headwear option.....it's the Holidays, right?!? Our BOCO options, where you can find the majority the Philadelphia Runner headwear options, are ELITE! This cap is made specificaly for the trails, but performs nicely on the roads as well. Flip up the bill for increased visibility or flip it down to reduce glare......especially if you're not wearing sunglasses.
ciele Headwear – if you know me, or have looked at my Instagram Bio, you know this is a "playing favorites" pic. But I don't want y'all to see me struggling at the 8K this weekend, in a ciele cap, and wonder why I'm not mentioning it here! Not that ANYONE cares what I'm wearing, but SPOILER ALERT, I'll be running in a ciele cap this Saturday. A bunch of different styles to choose from with ciele – lightweight caps for warmer weather, and beanies for colder temps. Really feeling the FLTCap Wind – it's a lightweight cap with warmth and beanie–like ear protection from the wind and other weather elements.
