The Gift Of The Gift Guide 2024 – Items For The Ultra Runner

We are SO BACK! Last year we weren't sure if Gift Guide Season was already a thing. This year, we KNOW it is.....so let's not.....wait.....

Last year we tapped in with Rachel Bambrick to obtain her insight. In case you missed it, Rachel is a Cocodona 250 finisher and, with the support of HOKA, launched a 4–part series on ultrarunning, designed for individuals who identify as female. This series became the group and nonprofit organization Women In Ultrarunning. Below are some of our top picks for The Ultra Runner, mixed in with Rachel’s. And keep tuning in to #MYPHILLYRUN Blog as Rachel will be returning with another race series very soon!

Philadelphia Runner Gift Card – it literally is the gift that keeps on giving!

*Footwear. If you are unsure of what works best for you, please visit one of our stores (locations below) for a shoe fitting, or drop us a line*

Neutral Footwear – your walking/jogging/running doesn't usually require extra support from your footwear to assist with pronation (the inward rolling motion of the foot) or supination (the outward rolling motion of the foot). The New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v14 would be a great option here.

Stability Footwear – your walking/jogging/running usually requires extra support from your footwear to assist with pronation (the inward rolling motion of the foot) or supination (the outward rolling motion of the foot). The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 would be a great option here.

Amphipod Race Lite Cups – many trail and ultra races are going cupless, meaning at aid and water stations they won’t have tons of small plastic cups for hydration. I love this because it’s great for the environment, but you’ve got to be prepared to have your own cup! These cups are super lightweight and compactable, so they stow away nicely into a hydration pack. Can be great for drinking sodas at aid stations, if you already have water bottles/flasks that you’ve been using.

Currex RunPro Insoles – do your feet, ankles, shins, etcetera a favor.....

The North Face Winter Warm Collection – Runners, it's (finally getting) cold outside. And you'll want to keep your body warm at rest and aid stations.

Roll Recovery R4 Body Roller – key focus points are the center groove to align with the spine and neck, along with a profile to help loosen tight IT–bands, calf muscles and many other areas of the body.

Nike Men's Challenger Tights – stretchy design that helps you run without restriction.....and multiple pockets for your nutrition (keep reading)!!!!! Light compression for recovery during aid stops and sleeping.

Vuori Women's Performance Jogger – in the running for the softest pants on Earth.

Nathan 6L Hydration Pack – when you start to go longer, the need to carry hydration (and snacks, and extra gear…etc. etc.) increases! Hydration packs are great ways to easily store and carry lots of water, calories, and any needed gear (like the body glide and race lite cups also mentioned). Helps to keep your hands free as well if you’re using trekking poles for big climbs.

goodr Sunglasses – classic shaped frames, as well as more trendy styles such as the WRAP G and BOLT G! Great for everyday wear, running, and cycling.

Sprints Car Towels – keep both your body and vehicle dry after your walk, run, or training session! "Hair Of The Dog" – love this one. Could double as a blanket too!

ciele Headwear – a bunch of styles to choose from – lightweight caps for warmer weather, and beanies for colder temps.

Amphipod Accessories – plenty of reflecting items and hydration handhelds to choose from.

Brooks Fusion Midweight Glove – I love our entire glove collection, but orange is my favorite color, so..... Also, super visible for night running.

Body Glide – because I've never ever heard someone say "you know what, I kinda like chaffing"

Junk Bands – a stylish way to keep sweat out of your eyes. We've added a few new designs too. It's hockey season.....LOVE the Gritty Headband!

Merino Wool Feetures Socks – for those long adventures, merino wool socks are perfect. Merino wool provides moisture wicking, thermoregulating, and odor resistant properties naturally, making them the perfect fit for ultra runs!

Compression – everything compression; do your entire body a favor. I wear compression socks almost daily. Wearing the socks below right now to get the blood properly circulating and to reduce some unwanted inflammation. As this is being typed, I'm preparing for a big training week and upcoming race.

Gu Stroopwafel – as the miles increase, so do the caloric demands. It’s typically recommended that you consume at least 250 calories an hour. Personally, I love eating things that feel more like “real food” and can be a treat, the Stroopwafels are perfect for this. They can also go great with coffee if you’re completing a race that transitions from night back into the next morning!

Tailwind – Tailwind is a wonderful drink mix to help runners gain hydration, electrolytes, and energy (through glucose and sucrose). During an ultramarathon runners should try to consume 60–90 grams of carbs (glucose and sucrose) an hour. Tailwind is an easy way to help achieve that as it mixes easily into your water. It comes in a variety of flavors, so you don’t get sick of just one taste. It also comes in both large multi–portion bags and smaller single serving pouches. I love to keep the multi–portion bag with my crew and refill at aid stations, and keep some single serving pouches in my pack for any on the go needs.

Anything from the Philadelphia Runner Collection – rep the greatest city in the universe; all products under $100. Tops, bottoms, accessories..... I have a lot of PR Gear, but wouldn't mind seeing something new in my Holiday Stocking!
