Foreword by Lionel Brahim Brodie III
I feel as though I'm in a coffee shop or store every day. And every time I'm asked if I'd like a straw or bag, I say without hesitation "no, let's try and save the planet". And I know my one straw, paper or plastic, or bag, paper or plastic, is merely a pebble toss in the Global Ocean, but it adds up.
I recently read an article about celebrities and their private jet usage, and how that is negatively affecting The Climate. I also recently read an article about Fast Fashion, and how a lot of, um, uncarefully made products easily rip or fall apart and end up in landfills.....negatively affecting The Climate, as well as our bodies via air pollution, animal pollution, and water pollution.
There's a joke amongst my inner circle that I get a new pair of sneakers every week. It may or may not be true. What I am most proud of, however, is there hasn't been a pair that I can remember that has simply been thrown away. If I don't "pay it forward" by giving then to a friend or relative, I recycle them. And I know my one used INSERT BRAND is merely a stone fling into the World Ocean.....but it adds up.
Let's try and save the planet!
From Philadelphia Runner's website about our shoe recycling program:
Recycle Your Sneakers!
SMART. SIMPLE. SUSTAINABLE. Every year, Americans dispose of hundreds of millions of shoes, but did you know that you can recycle your old sneakers and running shoes at any of our store locations? We are proud to help keep sneakers out of landfills through our partnership with Sneaker Impact. Plus, all shoe donations help us make an impact in our community by raising funds for our local non-profit partner, Students Run Philly Style. Bring your sneakers into any Philadelphia Runner store location!
Sneaker Impact's mission is to help spread awareness and encourage more Americans to recycle. By partnering with businesses like Philadelphia Runner, Sneaker Impact offers an opportunity to easily recycle used sneakers, rerouting them from landfills. Usable shoes are sent to microenterprises and distributors in developing countries to support local micro–business merchants while worn–out shoes are recycled for energy.
