The group running scene in Philadelphia plays an integral role in defining the beautiful culture that is our running community. Each team, crew, and club is incredibly unique, which adds an assortment of rich layers to our city’s ever–growing active lifestyle. Our area is home to an active running community with over 100 running crews/clubs/teams. Whether you are new to running or have been logging miles for years, the Philly running scene has something for you.
We're starting a new feature at Philadelphia Runner – Run Club Of The Month.
What You Do:
1. be a running group in the Philadelphia area
2. read each month's "Club Of The Month" post
3. be the first club to email brodie@philadelphiarunner.com after reading the post. The first club will be the next Run Club Of The Month (note: you can only win once)
Sound good? And without further ado, September 2024's Run Club Of The Month.....Manayunk Beer Runners.
Let’s start with an easy warm–up, tell us your name and the name of your club you’re representing:
Noah Volain, Manayunk Beer Runners
How and when did the club start?
The club began in September of 2016 from an idea one of our members had on a Facebook post to start a chapter of the Fishtown Beer Runners, and thus, MBR was born!
When and where does the club meet?
We meet at 6:30pm on Monday nights at the entrance to the Manayunk Towpath.
Give us a quick rundown of the club:
MBR combine responsible running and drinking in the interest of science! We host weekly runs of 3–5 miles, concluding each run at a local bar for a beer or two and a toast "To the Professor!"
What can someone expect if they come out to run with the group?
You can expect smiling faces to greet you and introduce you to the club at the start; as we are an all–inclusive club that welcome all paces and all faces, everyone is welcome!
Is there a membership or fee involved with joining the club for runs?
No, our club is free to join.
Do members get together to run at other times or gather for non–running activities?
Yes, during the fall we do training runs with other local clubs, not limited to but including East Falls Flyers, Norristown Running Club, Manayunk Running Club and Conshy Running. We have a constituent of runners that do Quizzo at various bars on Wednesday nights and other more beer–centered activities like beer miles and bar crawls!
Final question, tell us why someone should run with your club:
We are a truly inclusive club, and we welcome everyone regardless of who you are.
