If you’re planning to work out or run outdoors this season, now is the perfect time to build your summer fitness wardrobe. For many of us, fashion is the primary deciding factor when purchasing a new outfit, but we want you to also think about function and comfort when choosing your fitness gear.
We compiled a short list of the three things you should always look for when choosing running and fitness apparel.
1. Choose lightweight, moisture wicking fabrics.
As temperatures began to rise, we will sweat more throughout the duration of our outdoor runs and workouts. Because of this, it’s important to choose items that are made with moisture wicking fabrics that pull sweat away from the body to keep you dry. This will help prevent irritation and chafing to leave you feeling more comfortable during your workout.
2. Check for pockets and other features.
Do you carry your phone, ID, energy gels, or keys to your runs or workouts? If so, it’s nice to be able to have a place to store your items so that you don’t have to carry them in your hands.
Another key feature to ask about is built–in reflectivity. Many brands will place reflective strips on their shirts and shorts to make sure you are visible when running at night.
3. Make sure the pieces allow flexibility and mobility.
We get it. You love the look of a shirt, but can you move your arms comfortably in it? Can your legs move freely in those shorts that you’ve been eyeing? It’s very important to try on new fitness apparel to make sure that you can do your runs and workouts without fear of ripping the item or that it will cause discomfort.
We recommend making sure you can comfortably do a squat before you make the purchase.
